Basketball is often seen as a game that is dominated by natural athletes. While outstanding athletic ability is important, becoming a great basketball player is about learning skills and working hard. Working hard will help a player more in the long run than depending solely on athletic talent.

During the season team practices are focused on building team skills and not individual player skills. Therefore, to become a great basketball player and take the game to the next level, a player will need to practice the individual skills on their own during the off season. This will help a player perform at a higher level on the court during the basketball season and at fall tryouts.

The best way to improve your game during the off-season is to go to basketball camps, shoot in your driveway, dribble around the block, and play pick-up games with your friends. Above everything else a player should practice, practice and practice more.
